Recommended Reading on Battery Maintenance
« on: March 07, 2008, 04:10:56 AM »
I am interested in finding out more about battery maintenance (lead acid type right now).  Do members have recommendations on books or publications on the subject.  My list of questions on batteries is starting to grow.  Such as...

- How do you know when one battery in a pack is going bad and how do you identify it?  (both parallel and series wired batteries)
- What is a float charge?  How do you do this and how often? (I've never seen this feature on a car charger)
- Can you mix batteries with different amp-hour ratings in parallel packs?

I have also greatly underestimated the size wire needed for carrying moderate currents (20-25 amps) at 12 volts over 40-50 feet.  Do members have a favorite source for larger diameter wires (ie. 0 AWG)?

Thanks,

Scott...
