You want the ability to charge and discharge batteries. 

I would suggest watching videos or whatever to discover if it accurately tracks the energy that goes into or out of the battery during charging and discharging.  This will allow you to weed out any weak cells that are good, but have less capacity than the average cells.  In theory you could wire several in series and use the balance leads to charge a group of cells.  Just depends on your goal. 

Beyond energy tracking, you want a decent charge rate, more amps is generally good.  You can usually configure a lower charging current, so if you want to go slower than rated, you can.  That is another feature to confirm though.  10 to 12 amps is pretty good for a hobby charger, and probably fast enough for your purposes.

Hello EVers.

I have about 120pcs of the CALB 40 lithium-ion Batteries.  Here is a link to these for more detailed specs if you are interested.

Is there a simple and cheap 3V+ Charger on the market today that I could use for testing and pre-balance of the pack? 

I plan to get the Orion2 and an Elcon Charger but before I do, I may want to test these cells individually and would also need to have the pack pre-balanced before hooking up the BMS.

The cut off for these batteries is 3.65V - 2.5V.

Let me know your thoughts on a safe way to charge these individually.

Does your vacuum pump just do the brakes, or do you need vacuum for other things too? 

These days it seems like most people just use an electric brake booster instead of having a vacuum pump and associated gear.

Update. Just a moment ago I acquired an additional 50 pcs of the CALB 40aH batteries.

So I have more than enough to make two 144v packs or one that is potentially 144v 80aH.

I have just doubled my range but did add a bit more weight and wiring.

Hello Fellow EV Folks,

Looking for help to complete my project. I have a lot of the parts to complete the conversion but not a lot of knowledge and experience.  I am a fine builder of things but I am not an EE.

Quick recap, I am converting a DeLorean to EV, using a Warp 9 motor to the existing transmission.

The frame is all welded up, repaired, and painted
Trans rebuilt
New steering rack
New/rebuilt suspension
New brake everything / rebuilding calipers.  Need 12v vacuum pump. Any recommendations?
New clutch everything
Powder coated wheels and new tires.  Car is now in one piece and rolling.

Below is a list of the items I have.

1x NetGain Warp 9 Motor.  Plan to run approx. 144V.  I had an adaptor plate customer made and the motor is mounted in the car.
All items below were purchased at https://kellycontroller.com/.  You can see details specs on their site. I bought these items from the same manufacture in hopes that there will be some from of support if needed.
1x KDH-E - High Power Opto-Isolated Brushed DC Series/PM Motor Controller with Regen (72V-144V) (400A-1200A) - 144V, 800A
1x J2 Cable - KDH/HPM ----- for Controller
1x USB to RS-232 Cable (Legacy Controllers) ------for computer connection
1x Kelly 0-5V Throttle Pedal. -----Plan to hook up to existing pedal set up and use that wire to pull the throttle lever.
1x KL DC/DC Converter (30V-180V Input) (13.5V Output) (30A-50A)
1x ZJW 600A Main Contactor - 144V
1x KEMG Emergency Contactor 125A/250A Continuous - 250A
1x Plug and Play Fuse Holder and 10A Fuse
3x Fuse Holder - Plastic
1x ANE Fuse (100A-400A) ? 100A
1x ANE Fuse (100A-400A) - 200A
1x ANE Fuse (100A-400A) - 300A
1x ANE Fuse (100A-400A) - 400A
1x CNL 500A Fuse
1x CNN 800A Fuse   
Not sure of what exact fuse needed so I bought a few differ current options.

J1772 Inlet jack/ wired

20?-30?   4/0 AWG Super Vu-Tron Welding 600V Orange Cable   w/ lugs and crimper tool
30?-50?   2/0 AWG Super Vu-Tron Welding 600V Orange Cable   w/ lugs and crimper tool

72pcs   CALB CA40   3.2V   /   40Ah   Not sure if these will actually work long term (or short term).

Parts I still need to get.  Looking for recommendations for the following;

Need battery pack.  144V ideally approx. 100Ah min.  /  Currently have the 72pcs of CALB CA40 so I do have something to start.
Need Charger  (any recommendations?)
Need BMS system.  Probably go with Orion2 BMS (any other suggestions?)
Need 12 v vacuum pump for brakes.
Need Buss Bars for battery pack.  Might make them at work, any thoughts on how thick the copper bars should be for this type of voltage/current?
Need Interior redone.  Anyone know a good place?  Not looking to learn to sew at this time.
Need time and money.  Accepting donations of either ;D
There are still items with the car that need fixing and finishing but I have a good start now as far as functionality.

I work at a metal fab shop so I have the folks making me a mounting plate for the electronics.  This will be approx. 1/4" thick aluminum perforated for ventilation.  8" x 35".  Planning to mount this to the "fire wall" behind the cabin in the "engine" bay and will have a minimum of 1" air gap behind.  Trying to eliminate additional cooling devices if possible.

Here is where I will need help. What is the best way to wire this up all together?

What I would like is a detailed hook up/wiring schematic for this set up.  In addition to that there are a lot of finer details that I do not know, for instance. grounding these devices and if there is an order of how the parts are wired together, more so when/how the pack voltage is applet to the circuit.  I am sure there is a whole bunch of things I do not know.

My thought would be if anyone here is interested in helping start the main game plan for this set up.  Once there is a sold plan in place we can then set up a day for a bunch of the folks in the club to come over and help get this set up and installed.

Let me know your thoughts and any other considerations to this set up or if there are additional items to get that I may not have thought of.

When I started this project, I gave myself 10 years to complete it.  That was 9 years ago.  I did take a few years off here and there due to moving houses and family life etc..  My hope is to have this car running and reasonably reliable by this time next year, or sooner if possible.
