Title: New Super-capacitor charging/balancing chip
Post by: ted.lowe on August 19, 2010, 08:35:45 PM
Hi Folks,

i just received a couple of samples of the LTC3625 IC which charges / balances a 2-cell super-capacitor string.    It's only a 2-cell string, but it's a step in the right direction.  The elmans (electronic manufacturers) are really on the green energy bandwagon... i'm seeing new "green tech" chips announced every week lately!

Check out the "Solar Powered SCAP Charger with MPPT" circuit on page 14 of the datasheet:

The part:

The datasheet:

i'm definitely going to build that circuit and use it for a 24/7/365/century/millennium outdoor sensor (perhaps solar panel illumination).
No batteries to wear out forever!!

i'll keep you posted.

Kind regards,
ted
