Title: An EV on the worlds toughest rally?
Post by: rich.carroll on January 18, 2017, 02:25:07 AM
An EV just finished the Dakar Rally, likely the most grueling rally in the world.   https://goo.gl/nyB3lt (https://goo.gl/nyB3lt)  13 days, 3 couuntries: Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. Thirteen days, with special "selectives" or special stages.  When WRC runs special selectives, they can be 30 - 50 miles for long sections.  The long special stage on the Dakar is over 300 miles.  Flat out, no time outs, any stopping keeps the clock running.  Very, very, very long difficult roads.  This is an outlandish amount of 'work' to drive that distance off road.  And they do it day after day.  Look at the agenda:  http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2017/us/route.html (http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2017/us/route.html)  And for an EV to finish is amazing.  Use a 150 kWh  modular battery pack, and completely eliminate range anxiety.
