I know, it is in German but if you click under the picture on 'Fotostrecke' and then the arrows above each one you can get through it without knowing the language.

I actually laughed out loud.  

That should suddenly change starting from 1911. In this year the American Charles chain ring - the man development boss became later with general of engine - invented the electrical starter. Thus annoying setting of the engines in motion became redundant. The fact that gasoline was at that time very cheap and easily available did a remaining. The remainder of history is well-known.

Ok, ok "annoying setting of the engines in motion" means cranking.  I didn't get that at first.
