If you renew your vehicle registration after it expires, you are subject to a $20 late fee. secretary of State won't renew the truck plates on my EV unless I pay $99 for registration through December. The regional SOS office had closed at 4:15 so I tried a random office elsewhere in IL. The random person I spoke to said if plates are expired more than one year, I would just get new plates. The implication is that the year being expired and the late fee are forgiven. Has anybody here done that?
