FVEAA EV-X prize competition Overview

The Fox Valley Electric Auto Association is pleased to announce a $2000 prize competition to promote research & development of electric vehicle (EV) related parts and accessories.  Prize awards are as follows:
1st prize: $1000.00
2nd prize: $500.00
3rd prize $250.00
4th prize: $150.00
5th prize:  $100.00

Each entry will be evaluated by the following 5 categories:

Category 1: Usefulness
Category 2: Quality
Category 3: Safety
Category 4: Value
Category 5: Market Polling

The intent of the prize competition is to help bring to market new useful products that the electric vehicle hobbyist may use in converting a conventional vehicle to electric. Some suggested products are: a battery management system (BMS), a regenerative braking kit for series wound DC motors, a remote state of charge display (SOC) that fits on a keychain, a light-weight auto-sensing switchbox for different plugs going into a charger (a universal plug adapter), dynamic timing adjustment for series wound DC motors, a cruise control kit, a lightweight and adjustable battery box, a battery warming kit, a locally made isolated dual voltage charger, and an electric heat pump kit just to name a few.

Each category shall be graded on a 10 point scale. The first 4 shall be judged by the FVEAA directors.  The 5th category shall be judged through polling submitted to all FVEAA members.  Each entry shall have its marks within each category averaged, and then all category results totaled to determine its final score, for a possible combined score of 50 points.  In the event of a tie, market polling shall take precedent to determine a winner.  A minimum score of 20 points is required to be eligible for any prize.  The product must be new, not offered for sale before the contest begins.  All judging is final.

Eligibility:    The FVEAA X prize competition is open to anyone.  Any FVEAA member entered in the competition shall be excused from polling.  Any FVEAA director or officer entered in the competition is excused from judging and his voting duty shall be replaced by a FVEAA member appointed by the Board.

Entry Guidelines:  Any individual, team, school or corporation is eligible to enter.  Interested participants shall complete and submit an entry form no later than March 31st 2009.  A presentation, working sample and entry detail form must be submitted for demonstration at a FVEAA meeting no later than September 18th 2009, when judging shall take place.  The Award ceremony shall take place at the October 16th 2009 FVEAA meeting.  The working sample will be kept by the FVEAA board for testing and verification between the presentation and September 18th 2009.

Outstanding!

When will the entry and entry detail forms be available?
Decision 2010 -- I think we've seen enough.  Bring back a little fiscal sanity.

I am pleased to pass along that at the November the EV-X prize proposal was passed by the FVEAA membership.  Rich Carroll made the historic motion to accept the proposal and Mike Kaindl seconded the proposal.  During the discussion period, we made a CHANGE to the proposal which was adopted:
Members of the FVEAA, the EAA and fellow chapters of the EAA are permitted to enter the contest as many times as they like without charge.  Non-members are to be charged $5 for an entry into the contest.
Also, we reserved the right to modify the contest as needed to comply with government tax regulations.
Mike Kaindl has graciously agreed to help develop the official rules and regulations for the contest.  Stay tuned for the press release and entry form.

Is today really going to be the last day to enter the EV-X Prize competition?

Are entry forms available?

I am bummed that I missed the deadline too.  Any chance we could extent it?
